Erik Koch, who competed in both the UFC and WEC for a total of 14 combined fights, is no longer part of the roster. His last fight took place in July 2019.
UFC officials confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Wednesday.
It’s not clear at this time if Koch was released or if his contract was completed and he was not re-signed to the promotion.
Koch first made waves in the WEC where he amassed a 3-1 record before joining the UFC after the two organizations merged together. Koch picked up back-to-back wins in the UFC, which earned him a featherweight title shot against champion Jose Aldo.
Unfortunately for Koch, he never got the opportunity to compete for UFC gold after he suffered an injury that knocked him out of the bout with Aldo and he was replaced by Frankie Edgar.
Koch returned four months after his scheduled title fight and lost to Ricardo Lamas, which knocked him out of contention.
Since that time, Koch has been hampered by injuries that kept him from competing for more than once per year between 2016 and 2019. In his final four fights with the promotion, Koch went 2-2 including a win over Kyle Stewart in his most recent outing.
Just recently, UFC President Dana White confirmed the promotion would be purging the roster after numerous new signings throughout 2020 and it appears Koch’s time with the organization has come to an end.
