Multiple people with knowledge of the pending matchup confirmed it to MMA Fighting on Tuesday. Both fighters have verbally agreed to the matchup, though contracts have not been issued at this time. ESPN initially reported the potential contest.
Following his fifth win in 2020, which came with a stunning knockout against Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in December, Holland targeted middleweights ahead of him in the rankings for his next fight.
It didn’t take long for the Contender Series veteran to target Brunson as a potential opponent, and the UFC and Strikeforce veteran was more than happy to accept the challenge.
Brunson is coming off a statement victory over highly touted prospect Edmen Shahbazyan in his last outing. His current winning streak now stands at three fights.
Now, it appears Brunson will welcome Holland back to the octagon in March as the middleweights look to handle business. The winner will undoubtedly move closer to title contention in the 185-pound division.
