After unexpectedly defending some grappling exchanges in the opening round, Condit battled back to showcase his own skills on the canvas as he put Brown on his back several times while constantly seeking to do damage on the ground. Combining his wrestling with slick striking on the feet was more than enough for Condit to ultimately secure the victory with all three judges giving him the fight by 30-27 scorecards.
“Matt Brown is an amazing fighter, I love watching him,” Condit said while paying homage to his opponent on Saturday. “I came away with my hand raised, I can’t be sad about that.”
There was no feeling out period between the veteran welterweights with Condit firing multi-strike combinations as soon as the action got started including several head kicks that were just inches away from landing. In return, Brown showed patience to avoid the damage before working his way inside where he dragged Condit to the ground with a body lock takedown.
On the canvas, Brown managed to control Condit’s body while looking to advance his position while still raining down punches from the top. Just before the end of the round, Condit pulled off a slick reversal as he delivered a few shots of his own while looking to even the score.
Back on the feet at the start of round two, Brown fired off one of his signature elbows that clubbed Condit across the face to get the former interim champion’s attention. Condit quickly recovered as he began firing off strikes in succession with more and more of his shots slipping through Brown’s defense.

Despite his success on the feet, Condit decided to return the favor from the first round by tripping Brown down to the canvas as he started chipping away with his own ground and pound attack.
With five minutes remaining, Brown connected with arguably his best punch as he tagged Condit with a thudding right hand. Rather than follow up on the feet, Brown decided to look for the takedown, which then allowed Condit to earn a reversal while landing on top of the Ohio native on the ground.
As the fighters continued to scramble for position, it was Condit’s ability to continue putting on pressure in the grappling exchanges and just out working Brown until the final horn sounded.
After suffering through the toughest stretch of his career, Condit has now bounced back with two wins in a row while his fight against Brown also served as the final bout on his current deal with the UFC. Where he ends up next remains a mystery but Condit proved he’s still a threat to anybody in the welterweight division with his latest win at UFC Fight Island 7.
