Welterweight Anthony Rocco Martin is no longer a UFC fighter after nearly seven years with the promotion.
Martin, 31, announced his departure after fulfilling his previous contract this past June, when he lost a unanimous decision against Neil Magny at UFC 250. MMA Junkie first reported the news.
“I am excited for what the future holds,” he wrote in a prepared statement sent to MMA Fighting. “I’m ranked 22 on Tapology. I feel like I am entering my prime and can’t wait for a new home. I want to find a place that I can compete to be a world champion and push to be the best in the world.”
Martin noted prior to his fight with Magny that the UFC had not approached him to renegotiate a new contract with one fight remaining on his deal. He was hospitalized after the Magny fight with an infection that arose after arthroscopic knee surgery.
Between 2016 and 2019, Martin was 7-1 in the octagon with wins over Ryan LaFlare and Jake Matthews. The welterweight vet leaves the promotion with an overall octagon record of 9-6.
