The multi-title heavyweight champ had been stopped in consecutive bouts after rebounding from a failed bid for the UFC belt. Sergei Pavlovich represented a chance to right the ship at UFC Beijing, which took place November 2018.
Overeem did exactly what he needed to do in the fight, stopping Pavlovich with a flurry of ground and pound in the opening frame. And in doing so, he kept alive his hopes of winning a UFC title to round out a collection that includes belts in Strikeforce, K-1 and DREAM.
