With rumors already swirling that Usman’s next title defense will come against Jorge Masvidal in a rematch later this year, oddsmakers have already weighed in on the potential showdown.
Usman beat Masvidal in a largely lopsided decision during their previous encounter at UFC 251 in a fight that came together just days before the event took place. Following his third-round TKO win against Gilbert Burns in the UFC 258 main event this past weekend, Usman called out Masvidal while offering to give him a full training camp so there would be no excuses for the rematch.
According to the oddsmakers at BetOnline.ag, Usman has now opened as a 3-to-1 favorite to beat Masvidal again if the welterweights do battle at some point this year. Here are the first odds for the fight:
Kamaru Usman: -300
Jorge Masvidal: +250
To put that into betting terms, it would take a $300 wager on Usman to win $100 in return if he was victorious based on those odds. Meanwhile, the same $100 wager on Masvidal would win $250 should he find away to hand Usman his first loss in the UFC.
While the betting lines for a fight of this magnitude will likely shift several times, especially if the fight actually becomes official, it’s difficult to see Usman’s status as the heavy favorite to change.
Usman just racked up his 13th consecutive win in the UFC’s welterweight division, which is a new record and he’s now defended his welterweight title successfully three times.
It’s tough to imagine Usman being knocked off his throne but obviously Masvidal wants his opportunity after taking the last fight against him on just six days’ notice.
