Johnny Eduardo | Esther Lin, MMA Fighting Brazilian bantamweight Johnny Eduardo is back after a long layoff.
MMA Fighting confirmed with sources with knowledge of the matchup that Eduardo (28-12) is set to return to action against Anthony Birchak (15-7) at a UFC event on March 20 at UFC APEX in Las Vegas. The bout was first reported by MMA Junkie.
Eduardo, 40, has been out of action since June 2018. The 24-year veteran had plans to return in 2020 and even called out Sean O’Malley, but travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic made it difficult for Eduardo to land a booking. He is coming off of consecutive losses to Nathaniel Wood and Matthew Lopez, and has lost three of his last four to drop his UFC record to 3-4.
His last UFC win was a second-round TKO of Manny Gamburyan back in November 2016.
Birchak is also coming off of a loss, having been submitted by Gustavo Lopez at a Fight Night event on Nov. 7. “El Toro” owns a 2-3 UFC record across two stints with the promotion. He has also competed for RIZIN Fighting Championship, Bellator, and the Legacy Fighting Alliance.
