The February pay-per-view offering for the UFC was headlined by a welterweight title fight between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns, while a flyweight matchup between Alexa Grasso and Maycee Barber served as the co-main event.
Usman would successfully defend his title with a third-round finish of his former teammate, a victory that would put “The Nigerian Nightmare” in the record books with the longest welterweight winning streak in UFC history.
“Put some respect on my name,” Usman said inside the octagon following the victory.
Burns, however, was understandably heartbroken after coming up short in his first opportunity to capture UFC gold.
Following Grasso’s unanimous decision victory, Barber was shown apologizing to UFC president Dana White for her performance. White told the 22-year-old to keep her head held high especially with how she flipped a switch in the third round after being down 20-18 on all three judges’ scorecards.
“Great fight,” White told Barber. “Third round was awesome.”
Grasso would show her happiness for her hard work after picking up a huge win in a primo spot and is looking to make her presence felt moving forward in an intriguing 125-pound division.
