Following some heated words ahead of the fight, Minner had something to prove as he out struck and out grappled Rosa over three rounds to secure the victory. The judges scorecards read 30-26, 30-27 and 29-27 as Minner moves to 2-1 overall in the UFC.
“I always go for the finish,” Minner said about his many submission attempts over 15 minutes. “I just want a finish. I’m an entertainer. Keep counting us out and we’ll keep knocking them down.”
The punches were coming quick from both fighters in the opening round with Minner throwing with knockout power behind every shot. Rosa never took much damage but he did give up a takedown that then allowed Minner to begin working on his offense from the top position.
Minner was just relentless while attempting to shred Rosa’s guard, moving from side control and even advancing into the mount momentarily.
Never giving Rosa a moment to rest, Minner came out firing in the second round as he blasted the American Top Team fighter with a huge right hand in the first exchange. Once Rosa was down on the ground, Minner was quick to seize on the opening where he was immediately fishing for a number of submission.
Rosa refused to go away, even throwing up a late armbar attempt but he was spending the majority of the time on his back just trying to fend off Minner’s constant attacks.
As time passed into the final round, Minner remained in control while bloodying Rosa with his ground strikes and just bullying Rosa around the cage during the grappling exchanges. He also stifled every attempt at a comeback as Minner proved he’s going to be a tough out for anybody at 145 pounds in the UFC.
