The latest round of online sparring got started when Sterling posted a training pic flexing about his conditioning in advance of the March 6 pay-per-view at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
Yan quickly shot back his own prediction for the fight’s length, and off they went.

I just need one takedown. Fathers plan. Trust me, I’ve taken down bigger men then you with strong wrestling. I hope you’ve been eating your Wheaties my ???? https://t.co/yGleX1odPu

Too much talking brother. We will see in 2 weeks. Simple.
Fathers plan will have you nervous, frustrated, and tired. https://t.co/5rcJbMgrFL

Sterling’s grappling has indeed paid massive dividends on his way to the title shot. He quickly grounded Cory Sandhagen and cinched a first-round submission this past June to pick up his fifth consecutive win.
Yan’s striking, on the other hand, has led him to the title. He stopped once-dominant featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo this past July to capture the title left vacant by Henry Cejudo. It was his fourth win via knockout since joining the UFC. The Russian has lost just once in professional MMA competition and won seven straight to summit the 135-pound division.
Later, Sterling defended his tweets to fans who didn’t appreciate his reference of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who passed away from COVID-19 complications.
If complementing the style of Khabibs, that I like to implement is a “dig”, then you’re a sad silly Willy https://t.co/NaRzzlr8Mm

This is bragging rights. And to show who really should be the champ. Sandhagen and I had better resumes than us and they gave Yan and Aldo the shot for the vacant title. Complete BS and disrespect to the work we’ve put in. But the talk is over. We will see who is who. https://t.co/6KnIZ3cskV
