MMA Fighting confirmed with sources with knowledge of the matchup that a flyweight championship rematch between Figueiredo (20-1-1) and Moreno (18-5-2) is set for a UFC event on June 12. Figueiredo successfully defended the title against Moreno at UFC 256 in December via majority draw in a Fight of the Year contender.
ESPN was first to report the rematch booking.
Figueiredo won the flyweight title last July, beating Joseph Benavidez a second consecutive time. The performance made up for a missed opportunity in February in which Figueiredo defeated Benavidez by TKO, but was ineligible to capture a vacant title after coming in heavy for the contest.
He later successfully defended his title by first-round submission against Alex Perez at UFC 255 in November (Perez was a replacement for an injured Cody Garbrandt). Moreno was also victorious at UFC 255 and following that card, he and Figueiredo were booked for the quickest turnaround for a championship fight in UFC history at just 21 days.
Moreno is unbeaten in five appearances since returning to the UFC in late 2019. He fought fellow contender Askar Askarov to a split draw, then rattled off consecutive wins over Kai Kara-France, Jussier Formiga, and Brandon Royval to set up his title challenge against Figueiredo. Overall, “The Assassin Baby” is 6-2-2 inside the octagon.
