The co-headliner pits two of the more action-oriented fighters in the 205-pound division against each other. The bout is Ankalaev’s first since a two-fight saga against Ion Cutelaba that took up one year of his career after a controversial TKO win one year ago and a pair of rematches cancelled by positive COVID-19 tests. The Dagestani fighter has won five straight fights including his wins over Cutelaba, falling short only in his octagon debut against Paul Craig in his debut two years ago (and in the literal last second after winning the fight up to that point).
Krylov, meanwhile, has had much more difficulty building consistency in the octagon. In his second stint as a UFC fighter, he’s gone 2-2 with wins over standouts Ovince Saint Preux and Johnny Walker and defeats against Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira, the champion and arguable No. 1 contender in the division.
