The former featherweight title contender is no longer under contract with the UFC after completing her deal following a loss to Amanda Nunes this past weekend.
UFC officials confirmed Anderson completed her contract with the promotion when speaking to MMA Fighting on Tuesday.
During a live stream on Twitch, Anderson confirmed her time with the UFC had come to an end, though she also said the promotion planned to dump the entire women’s featherweight division.
Multiple sources speaking to MMA Fighting denied the UFC had any plans to get rid of the featherweight division. After Nunes’ dominant win this past weekend at UFC 259, UFC President Dana White stated the weight class would stay around as long as she wanted to defend the title at 145 pounds.
Nunes is currently 3-0 as a featherweight in the UFC after dispatching Cris Cyborg to claim the title and then notching subsequent title defenses against Felicia Spencer and Anderson.
As for Anderson, her run with the UFC comes to an end after she amassed a 3-3 record with the promotion after joining the roster from Invicta FC in 2018. The ex-Invicta champ suffered losses in two of her first three fights including a lopsided defeat to former bantamweight champion Holly Holm in her debut.
The Australian fighter eventually earned a title shot after back-to-back wins over Zarah Fairn Dos Santos and Norma Dumont, but now it appears she’ll be looking for a new promotion.
When it comes to the future of the featherweight division in the UFC, there’s currently only one fight booked in the weight class with Spencer scheduled to take on newcomer Danyelle Wolf on May 22.
