A fan-favorite ever since his WEC and UFC days over a decade ago, “Bad Boy” announced his retirement after a hard-fought, bloody victory over fellow MMA fighter Joe Elmore in the main event of the bare-knuckle boxing show.
In his post-fight interview, Garcia said he “still got a lot left in the tank” but felt it was time to stop. He retires with a record of 2-1 in bare-knuckle boxing and 18-13-1 in MMA, a long run that includes wins over “The Korean Zombie” and Jens Pulver.
“I’ve got an important decision to make and it’s a hard one,” he said (h/t Bad Left Hook). “When I signed with BKFC, I signed a three-fight deal, and I made a deal with my wife, I made a deal with my job, and I made a deal with God. I said I was gonna be three and done, but my deal with God was to be the No. 1 guy when I left.
“That’s why I took the fight with Joe Elmore. I wanted to prove to the world I was the No. 1 fighter at 165 when I retired.”

Fellow MMA veteran Melvin Guillard competed earlier that night in Biloxi and was defeated 80 seconds into the opening round. Guillard was rocked by Scott O’Shaughnessy and sent into the ropes instead of going down. O’Shaughnessy continued to land punches until referee Keith Hughes called the end of the fight.
Guillard called it “one of the most f***** up stoppages and fight history” on social media, adding there “wasn’t even a eight count. This was not an MMA fight and I was not hurt.”
