UFC Vegas 22 video: Adrian Yanez face plants Gustavo Lopez with brutal punch, asks for hometown fight at UFC 262

The bantamweight prospect followed up a head kick knockout in his octagon debut with another highlight reel performance on Saturday night at UFC Vegas 22. This time around, Yanez showcased a strong boxing game until he unleashed a brutal counter right hand that blasted Gustavo Lopez and twisted him around before landing face first on the canvas.
That was enough for the referee to jump into stop the contest at just 27 seconds into the third and final round.
“I knew the whole entire time that Gustavo’s dangerous,” Yanez said after the win. “He has power in his hands. I was being very methodical. I just had to pick my shots. That guy, he’s tough. We planned on this the whole entire time.”
There were a lot of fast hands being thrown from the bantamweights early but it was Yanez using his reach to connect with a couple of stiff shots that snapped Lopez’s back. Those punches caught Lopez’s attention to the point where he was much more wary about closing the distance, which allowed Yanez to really begin stalking him across the octagon.
With less than 30 seconds remaining in the opening round, Yanez blasted Lopez with a pair of stinging right hands that helped his confidence soar as he began gaining momentum.
Yanez continued showcasing his tremendous striking but never allowing himself to get out of control while staying tight with his combinations and then exploding forward whenever an opportunity opened up. During one fiery exchange, Yanez cracked Lopez with a counter right hook that dropped the former Combate Americas’ champion to the ground momentarily before getting back to his feet .
It was almost that same exact punch that Yanez connected with in the third round just as Lopez was stepping into throw his own combination but this time he was sent down to the ground for the final time.
Yanez celebrated the win as he moved to 2-0 in the UFC while notching his sixth win in a row overall. Afterwards, Yanez asked for the opportunity to perform in his hometown as the UFC prepares to return to Houston in May.
“Dana White, put me on that card,” Yanez said about fighting at UFC 262. “I’m ready to perform in my hometown. Help me live my dream.”
