Esther Lin, MMA Fighting Kristina Williams is ready to turn the page in her mixed martial arts career with the next chapter taking place this weekend.
Williams (3-3), who competed her entire pro career to this point exclusively for Bellator MMA, returns to action at XFC Young Guns 1 to face Helen Lucero (1-1) this Saturday. The event takes place at the Oklahoma City Convention Center in Shawnee, Okla.
“Warhorse” opened up a lot of eyes when she stopped Heather Hardy in her promotional debut at Bellator 185 in October 2017. From there, Williams picked up a win over Emily Ducote before facing former UFC title challenger Valerie Letourneau in just her third pro fight—dropping a unanimous decision. The 31-year-old went 1-2 in her last three Bellator appearances, including a loss to the current 125-pound champion Juliana Velasquez.
Ahead of her upcoming bout, Williams joined MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck to discuss here release from Bellator and how she reacted to it, her excitement for future possibilities, if she would’ve done anything differently during her Bellator run, her recovery from a nasty leg injury she suffered checking a leg kick and how long it took her to get back, working with horses full-time during the pandemic, being in a fight-by-fight deal with XFC, and how she sees the fight with Lucero playing out.
