Tyrell Fortune | Bellator MMA Tyrell Fortune has a new opponent for Bellator’s 2021 debut.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed with MMA Fighting that Matt Mitrione will no longer compete at Bellator 255 this Friday for undisclosed reasons. With Mitrione’s exit, Fortune now faces Jack May in a rematch from September’s Bellator 245 event. MMA Junkie was first to report the news.
In the first meeting between Fortune and May last September, the bout ended in a no contest after May took an accidental low blow and was unable to continue.
Fortune’s 2020 started off with his first professional loss to Timothy Johnson at Bellator 239. Following the no contest, the 30-year-old bounced back with a unanimous decision win over Said Sowma at November’s Bellator 251 event.
May, a veteran of 18 pro MMA bouts, makes his second appearance of 2021 after dropping a split decision to Kyle Noblitt at an XMMA event in January.
Bellator 255 takes place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. this Friday. The event is headlined by the last semi-final bout of the Bellator Featherweight World Grand Prix as Patricio Pitbull defends his 145-pound title against Emmanuel Sanchez.
