Tony Ferguson | Esther Lin, MMA Fighting Beneil Dariush will soon face the biggest test of his career.
The UFC announced Monday that Dariush (20-4-1) and former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson (25-5) are set to fight at UFC 262 on May 15 at Toyota Center in Houston.
The bout was first reported by MMA Junkie.
Previously reported bouts between Jack Hermansson and Edmen Shahbazyan, and Edson Barboza and Shane Burgos were also made official Monday.
Ferguson enters this fight on the first losing streak of his career. He fell short in both of his 2020 outings, losing by fifth-round TKO to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249 and then dropping a lopsided unanimous decision to Charles Oliveira at UFC 256. Prior to those losses, Ferguson had won 12 consecutive fights with finishes of Donald Cerrone, Anthony Pettis, Kevin Lee, and Edson Barboza, among others.
Dariush has rattled off six consecutive wins dating back to November 2018, with four of those wins coming by way of knockout or submission. In his most recent outing, Dariush won a split decision over Diego Ferreira in a Fight of the Night award-winning effort on Feb. 6. The 12-year veteran also holds notable wins over Drew Dober, Rashid Magomedov, James Vick, Michael Johnson, and Jim Miller.
