Esther Lin, MMA Fighting Bellator’s second event of 2021 has added a lightweight bout.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a matchup between Goiti Yamauchi and Dan Moret is the latest addition to Bellator 256. The event takes place April 9 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. and will air on Showtime. MMA Junkie first reported the booking.
Moret makes his promotional debut after signing a multi-fight deal with Bellator, a promotional official confirmed to MMA Fighting. “The Hitman” went winless in a three-fight stint in the UFC, dropping decisions to Alex White and Jared Gordon along with a second-round TKO loss to Gilbert Burns. The 34-year-old was victorious in his most recent appearance picking up a TKO win over Anton Kuivanen at UAE Warriors 9 in November 2019.
Yamauchi will make his 30th professional appearance and his first since December 2019. Since having a three-fight winning streak snapped by Michael Chandler at Bellator 192, Yamauchi has added another trio of consecutive victories, which includes submissions of Saad Awad and Daron Cruickshank.
Bellator 256 is headlined by an opening round matchup in the light heavyweight grand prix as heavyweight champion and former 205-pound champ Ryan Bader attempts to recapture the title by first beating former UFC titleholder Lyoto Machida in a rematch.
