Aspen Ladd | Esther Lin, MMA Fighting UFC bantamweight contender Aspen Ladd is set to return this summer.
MMA Fighting confirmed with sources with knowledge of the 135-pound matchup that Ladd (9-1) will face Macy Chiasson (7-1) at a UFC event on July 24, following an initial report by ESPN.
This will be Ladd’s first fight since December 2019.
Ladd defeated Yana Kunitskaya by third-round TKO in her most recent fight, but was sidelined in 2020 after missing out on a pair of high-profile bouts. In March of last year, Ladd saw opponent Julianna Pena withdraw from a scheduled bout due to an injury. Three months later, Ladd was scheduled to fight one-time UFC bantamweight title challenger Sara McMann, but a knee injury forced Ladd out of that bout and any possible matchups for the remainder of the year.
Recently, Ladd told MMA fighting that she had hoped to re-book the bout with Pena rather than see the UFC matchmakers push Pena into a title shot against Amanda Nunes.
Chiasson has rebounded from her first pro loss to Lina Lansberg with consecutive decision victories over Marion Reneau and Shanna Young. The Ultimate Fighter 28 featherweight champion improved her UFC record to 5-1 following her victory over Reneau in March.
The July 24 UFC event has yet to be officially announced by the promotion.
