Claressa Shields to make MMA debut at June 10 PFL event

Claressa Shields | Esther Lin, MMA Fighting Boxing star Claressa Shields has an official date for her MMA debut.
The three-division world champion will compete in MMA for the first time at the PFL’s June 10 event at Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, N.J. An opponent is still to be determined.
MMA Fighting confirmed the debut date with officials following an announcement on Tuesday’s episode of Good Morning America, which featured an interview with Shields.
Shields, 26, signed with the PFL in November of last year, with the expectation that she would continue her boxing career while also preparing to compete in MMA. The two-time Olympic gold medalist will compete in bouts outside of the league’s tournament structure.

It is not yet known in what weight class Shields will compete in MMA. In her most recent boxing bout against Marie-Eve Dicaire, Shields weighed in at 153.6 pounds. She has also won world titles at middleweight and super middleweight in boxing.
Shields’ bout with Dicaire headlined an all-women boxing pay-per-view that was promoted by Shields herself along with Salita Promotions. It was the first boxing PPV headlined by two women since June 8, 2001. Shields, the reigning WBC and WBO light middleweight champion, defeated Dicaire by unanimous decision to claim vacant IBF and WBA titles, making her the first undisputed champion in two divisions in the four-belt era.

The June 10 PFL event will also feature lightweight and featherweight tournament competitors in action.
