Multiple sources confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Tuesday with Mota also issuing a statement about his health after being unable to compete in on May 7.
“I was fine and then I caught the coronavirus and this sh*t f*cked me up,” Mota said when speaking to MMA Fighting. “I was sick for two weeks and then I only had four or five weeks to train for him. I agreed to this fight a week or two before COVID but then I got sick and thought it would be better to cancel it.
“It’s too risky. I couldn’t train. I’m starting to feel better now [but] I haven’t felt anything like this disease before in my life. No rush, I’ll do the right thing. I’m upset because it was a good fight, he has great wrestling but I believe in my fighting style and what I train.”
Mota added that he will now take off a few weeks to recover while planning at least two to three months off as he seeks out a new team after leaving Glover Teixeira’s gym recently.
As for Storley, he’s expected to remain on the Bellator 258 card, although a new opponent has not been secured for the former NCAA All-American wrestler just yet.
Storley currently boasts an 11-1 record in his fighting career with his only loss coming in a razor-close split decision to Yaroslav Amasov in his most recent bout this past November.
Bellator 258 will feature bantamweight champion Juan Archuleta taking on Sergio Pettis in the main event while Anthony “Rumble” Johnson faces Yoel Romero in the opening round of the ongoing light heavyweight grand prix.
