After a controversial ending to his most recent fight earlier this month, Eddie Alvarez is getting a quick turnaround.
Promotional officials confirmed to MMA Fighting that Alvarez will compete at ONE on TNT 4 with an opponent to be determined. “The Underground King” will face the winner of the ONE on TNT 3 bout between Marat Gafurov and Rae Yoon Ok, which is set to air on tape delay this Wednesday. The South China Morning Post first reported the news.
In his most recent appearance at ONE on TNT 1, Alvarez took on Iuri Lapicus and after landing numerous shots around the ear of Lapicus, the referee stopped the action before disqualifying the former UFC champion. Alvarez and his team have challenged the ruling and ONE is expected to vote on whether or not they will overturn the decision on Friday, a source confirmed to MMA Fighting.
Alvarez recently stated that “serious talks” are ongoing for a potential boxing match against Oscar De La Hoya as the former world champion is expected to make his return to the squared circle under the Triller banner July 3.
