Justin Medeiros is your 2021 CrossFit Games champion in the Men’s Division. Tia-Clair Toomey has one event left and has a substantial lead over the women.

Since Mat Fraser retired from competitive CrossFit in February of 2021, fans wondered who would succeed him atop the Games podium for the first time since 2016. After Day Two, it became clear that the fight for first was between Patrick Vellner and Medeiros, who was a Games sophomore in 2021. At 21-years-old, Medeiros earned third place at the 2020 CrossFit Games. At 22 years of age, Medeiros is the youngest man to ever win the CrossFit Games.

Medeiros took a different route to his first-ever Games victory. The 22-year-old won one event, but also placed out of the top 10 just twice throughout the competition. Vellner was hot on his tail in the final two days of competition. His 35th-place finish in Event One was the biggest factor in the Canadian’s final runner-up rank. Aside from that poor performance, Vellner, like Medeiros also demonstrated consistency, placing outside of the top 10 just four times. He also won three events.

From start to finish, Toomey-Orr dominated the competition. She still has one event to go. Still, it’s clear that the other women are all battling for second. She heads into Event 15 with 1,335 points.

With this win, Medeiros will be looking to build his own legacy in 2022. First there was Froning. Then there was Fraser. Will there be Medeiros?
