When it comes to barbells loaded with extremely heavy weight, Yangsu Ren is often the powerlifter prepping to deadlift it. The 83-kilogram powerlifter took to his Instagram page on Nov. 14, 2021, to share a video wherein he sumo deadlifted 370 kilograms (815.7 pounds) raw. For Ren, that might be any other day at the office. Still, that lift is 7.5 kilograms (16.5 pounds) more than the current International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) world record deadlift of 362.5 kilograms (799.2 pounds) scored by John Haack at the 2019 USPA The Tribute.

Check out Ren’s lift below, courtesy of his Instagram page. He wears a lifting belt but eschews knee sleeves and wrist wraps. He tested out deadlift slippers rather than deadlift shoes or lifting barefoot or in socks.

Ren did not list his bodyweight at the time of the above lift, but it is nearly four-and-a-half times his competition bodyweight. This is not the first time Ren has lifted that kind of weight at the gym.

In 2019, Ren hit 338 kilograms (745 pounds) and 369.7 kilograms (815 pounds) as top singles one month apart. In 2020, he hit a 378.8-kilogram (835-pound) lift during his training to build towards a 355-kilogram (782.3-pound) goal, which he scored right before the new year was rung in for 2021. In 2021, Ren broke through the 900-pound deadlift milestone when he pulled 410.5-kilograms (905-pounds), albeit at a bodyweight of 196 pounds — well over the weight allowed in 83-kilogram (183-pound) competition.

Ren eventually made it to the 400-kilogram (881.9-pound) milestone when he pulled that gargantuan weight on Halloween. Check it out below:

Ren also had a long-term goal of smashing a 328.9-kilogram (725-pound) conventional deadlift. He shattered that target and has since pulled substantially over it. Ren lifted 347 kilograms (765 pounds) raw in a conventional stance on Sep. 19, 2021.

According to Open Powerlifting, the most recent time Ren competed in a sanctioned powerlifting meet was at the 2018 USAPL Raw Nationals, where he ranked seventh overall. His top deadlift at that event was 325 kilograms (716.5 pounds). Judging by Ren’s training, he is clearly capable of surpassing that weight on the barbell. Whenever Ren intends to step back onto the lifting platform in a sanctioned meet, he will likely hit the heaviest pull of his competitive career.
