Devon Larratt is one of the best arm wrestlers on the planet. The 46-year-old Canadian is currently in possession of the Legacy Hammer — an artifact similar in appearance to Thor’s Hammer that represents the highest-ranking arm wrestler worldwide. Larratt wields the Legacy Hammer for right-handed arm-wrestling, while Denis Cyplenkov of Ukraine wields the one for left-handers.

During the 2021 Olympia weekend in Orlando, FL, Larratt was challenged by former WWE Superstar Braun Strowman, whose real name is Adam Scherr, a former strongman, to a battle on the arm-wrestling table. Both men had words with each other in classic pro wrestling fashion as they flexed their biceps to a gawking crowd. Check out their arm-wrestling match that spanned two rounds before chaos ensued in the video below, courtesy of ARMSHARK ARMWRESTLING’s YouTube channel:

Judging from Larratt’s competitive background, he does not feel much fear when standing toe-to-toe with a strongman who is physically much larger than him. He did not back down from stepping in a boxing ring with 2018 World’s Strongest Man champion Hafthor Björnsson on only a month and a half’s notice. Likewise, he did not flinch when the former “Monster Among Men” invaded his personal space. On the contrary, he seemed to get a kick out of Scherr’s arm-wrestling challenge:

This is the best day of my life.

Right before the first round of their arm-wrestling match, Scherr bellowed a roar in Larratt’s face. Larratt, again, meets it with a smile. As their hands cupped each others’ waiting for the referee’s signal to begin, Larratt wailed, “yeah,” as though he’s a kid with a sweet tooth about to enter a candy store.

Scherr’s size appeared to be the difference in the opening round as he commanded control of the table until their hands eventually slipped. Scherr screamed, “you let go!” The judge agreed and awarded the pro wrestler the first point. Larratt appeared to disagree with the ruling but collected himself for round two.

In the second round, Larratt’s demeanor was much more controlled than in round one. He shook his head with a smile as Scherr struggled to move him. It was as though Larratt spent round one scoping out the weaknesses in Scherr’s attack and then exploited them in round two. Larratt snuffed Scherr’s arm on the pad in a dominant round-two win before reaching for the Legacy Hammer and sniffing it — a taunt not appreciated by Scherr, who pushed Larratt when he stepped too close.

Scherr and Larratt were forcibly separated, even as Larratt attempted to climb over the arm-wrestling table. Who’s to say if fisticuffs would have been thrown had they been left to their own devices? Ultimately, the rubber match to determine a winner never transpired.

The 57-year-old Brzenk is regarded as one of the greatest arm wrestlers to ever compete, with over 400 competition victories to his name over his 40-plus year career, according to The Armwrestling Archives. The last time Brzenk and Larratt faced off at the 2015 World Armwrestling League semifinal, Brzenk emerged victoriously.

We’ll see if Brzenk can repeat history in Dubai, or Larratt’s experience going one-on-one with strongmen in and out of the ring has improved his game.
