Buttery pastries, lavender-scented fields, and smashing powerlifting records is just a few of France’s favorite things.
In a country home to powerlifting elites — Tiffany Chapon and Nabil Lahlou come to mind — 63-kilogram lifter Samantha Eugenie has punctuated her dominance by taking home four Junior National Records at the FFForce Nationals. The competition took palace from May 14-16 and was held in Saint-Germaine-en-Laye, France.

[Related: How to Deadlift 500 Pounds (and More)]Eugenie’s deadlift was also an unofficial IPF junior world record in the deadlift. The summary of her day is below.
Eugenie’s FFForce Nationals Performance

Squat — 182.5 kilograms (402.5 pounds)*
Bench Press — 102.5 kilograms (226 pounds)*
Deadlift — 215 kilograms (474 pounds)*
Total — 500 kilograms (1,102.5 pounds)* **

*New French National Record
**Unofficial IPF Junior World Record Weighing in at 62.1 kilograms (137 pounds), this is the French native’s first time totaling at least 500 kilograms in a full meet.
Wow, I’m so happy, comp PR +50kg. Hard work paid off.
Success on the platform is laid in the gym, and anyone who follows powerlifting and/or Eugenie knew that fallen records were all but inevitable. In early May 2022, for example, Eugenie pulled 2010 kilograms in training (see below), which matched the IPF Junior World Record at the time.
What’s Next?
Next up for Eugenie is the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) Junior World Championships, scheduled to take place on the week of June 6-12, 2022 in Sun City, South Africa.

[Related: What You Need to Know About How to Increase Strength]According to Open Powerlifting, Eugenie had competed in eight meets before this breakout performance took place. Her last outing was actually at the IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships in Halmsted, Sweden, where she placed fifth in the Juniors 63-kilogram category. All three of her lifts in this meet were better than those she performed one year ago. She is the 2019 IPF Sub-Junior world champion.
She will enter the 2022 Junior world championships as a top contender to leave in first place, thanks in part to the performance she put on in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. The 19-year-old will also qualify to make that deadlift record an official world record should she pull as much, or more, than she did in her last meet.
