The 2022 European Weightlifting Championships (EWC) have seen multiple records fall. Occurring in Tishana, Albania, the contest featured Antonino Pizzolato of Italy in the 89-kilogram category. He earned the gold medal for the second consecutive year via a world record 392-kilogram (864.2-pound) total. Here were his full results:

Clean & Jerk — 217 kilograms (478.4 pounds) — World Record
Total — 392 kilograms (864.2 pounds) — World Record
Entering the 2022 EWC, the 89-kilogram category’s world standards had not yet been exceeded. The world standard snatch of 179 kilograms (394.6 pounds) remains, but Pizzolato eclipsed the 216-kilogram (476.2-pound) world standard clean & jerk and the 387-kilogram (853.2-pound) world standard total. The 89-kilogram category concluded on June 2, 2022. Pizzolato achieved the World Record total to stand atop the podium. Karlos Nasar of Bulgaria claimed the silver medal and three Junior World Records along the way. Revaz Davitadze of Georgia came in third. Here are the full results:

Revaz Davitadze (GEO) — 369-kilograms (813.5 pounds)
The 2022 EWC was the first international competition at 89-kilograms for the 25-year-old Pizzolatto. It was his third EWC gold medal. He previously won the EWC in 2019 and 2021, both in the 81-kilogram category. He competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in the 81-kilogram category to a bronze medal finish via a 365-kilogram (804.7-pound) total — Zacarias Bonnat Michel took silver, and Lu Xiaojun won gold.
In 2017, Pizzolato won the IWF World Championships in the 85-kilogram category in Anaheim, CA. All three of Pizzolato’s lifts at the 2022 EWC are his lifetime competition-best lifts to date. The 2022 EWC will conclude on June 5, 2022. The Men’s 96-kilogram, 102-kilogram, 109-kilogram, and +109-kilogram categories and the Women’s 76-kilogram, 81-kilogram, 87-kilogram, and +87-kilogram categories are still to come.
