On July 12, 2022, British IFBB Pro League bodybuilder James Hollingshead announced that he will compete in the 2022 Yamamoto Pro and the 2022 Arnold Classic UK. He aims to win at least one of those contests to qualify for the 2022 Mr. Olympia contest, scheduled for Dec. 16-18, 2022, in Las Vegas, NV.
Hollingshead shared the news of his competition future on Fouad Abiad’s Bodybuilding and Bollocks podcast. Hollingshead’s statement can be seen at the 13:06 mark in the YouTube video below:

Hollingshead has won two pro shows in his career. His first win was the 2020 Europa Pro. He followed that up by winning the 2020 British Grand Prix. He made his Mr. Olympia debut at the 2021 Olympia weekend in Orlando, FL, where he finished 13th overall. Reigning Mr. Olympia Mamdouh “Big Ramy” Elssbiay won that show for the second consecutive year.
Hollingshead disclosed that waiting so long between competitions may have led to his finish at the 2021 Olympia. Thus, he’s opting to compete in multiple shows this season:
I’d like to do multiple shows, just to get in my groove. The mistake I made last year was just trying to aim for one. I don’t think that was very beneficial.
Hollingshead went on to tell Abiad that he weighed around 282 pounds at the time of the podcast recording. One of the criticisms of Hollingshead’s physique at the 2021 Olympia was that his midsection could have been tighter. He has a strategy in place to help him improve his core for the upcoming contests in 2022:
I’m training my abs more thoroughly. I let myself stay a bit emptier during training so that I can get a better contraction.
The 2022 Yamamoto Cup Pro is scheduled to take place in Italy on Sept. 11, 2022. The venue and city have not yet been shared on the IFBB Pro League schedule at the time of this article’s publication. The second Arnold Classic UK is set for Sept. 24-25, 2022, in Birmingham, England.

Hollingshead must win one of the shows to qualify for the 2022 Olympia. He has zero points on the Olympia Qualification System and does not have enough time to score the requisite points to qualify if he fails to win a contest.
