Event Three Recap
The first heat for the Individual Women kicked off, and Victoria Campos was the first athlete through the first pegboard ascent. The factor that could cost a lot of time in this event was that any mistake compels the athletes to go back to zero reps. That means if someone does nine pistol squats and misses their 10th, they start back to zero. The top 20 women will advance to the Semifinal portion of the event.
Elisa Fuliano was the first to cross the finish line in the first heat with a time of 2:06.19. The second heat saw Danielle Brandon reach the jump rope first. The commentary team kept calling this workout a “controlled freakout” as the pace was very quick, but the cost for a mistake through the unbroken sections is substantial.
Brandon blitzed through the handstand walk to cross the finish line in 1:53.39 seconds. Thuridur Helgadottir was not far behind in second place.
If Danielle Brandon gets to the handstand walk, no one can beat her.
Heat three placed the cameras on Brooke Wells as the pegboard and handstand walk would put place a lot of pressure on her reconstructed elbow. She had a slow start on the pegboard and fell to the back of the field.
Jaqueline Dahlstrøm held the lead in the heat at the start of the jump rope portion and never gave it up. She moved through the pistols and the handstand walk to cross the finish line in a time of 2:01.46 seconds. Arielle Loewen finished second in 2:07.72 seconds. Wells finished within the time cap but would not advance to the Semifinal portion of the event.
The final heat featured the top 10 women on the leaderboard after one event. Laura Horvath got out to another early lead, putting her rock climbing background to good use. Tia-Clair Toomey, Mal O’Brien, and Emma Lawson got to the jump ropes at the same time, but Toomey lost time after slipping.
Lawson flew past Horvath, who struggled on the Pistols, but a fall by Lawson in the handstand walk opened the door for O’Brien to win the heat in a time of 2:02.31. Lawson recovered to finish in 2:17.11. Toomey didn’t finish until 2:26.33 — still good for sixth in the heat despite a costly mistake in the jump ropes.
Women’s Semifinal
The top 20 women advanced to the Semifinal portion of the event, which included Brandon, O’Brien, Lawson, and Horvath as the 20th athlete. Toomey did not qualify for this round. It is only the third time Toomey finished outside the top 10 in her last 46 Games events. She officially finished 23rd overall — the second worst Games event result of her career.
This heat denied athletes the use of their feet on the pegboard. Campos and Horvath made it to the jump ropes first, but both missed attempts and had to start over. Lawson advanced to the pistol squats first, followed by Kristi Eramo O’Connell and Haley Adams.
Lawson corrected her fall in the handstand walk from the Quarterfinal round and crossed the finish line at 1:52.14. Adams finished second at 2:06.75.
The second Semifinal heat saw O’Brien, Brandon, and Fuselier reach the jump ropes first, but Dahlstrøm wasn’t far behind. Brandon was flawless through the double under and reached the pistols first. O’Brien overtook the lead towards the end of the pistols and claimed the heat win in a time of 1:44.43. Brandon was just under two seconds behind her.
Women’s Final
The top 10 athletes from the Semifinal advanced to the Final round. Five athletes were chasing first-place points, and it was Brandon who reached the jump ropes first. The double-under crossovers appeared to give the athletes a lot of trouble as the pace of the event slowed significantly. None of the athletes made it through the crossovers.

Men’s Quarterfinal
Austin Spencer moved through the first pegboard ascents for an early lead, but Fikowski edged him out to start jumping rope first. Fikowski, Haapalainen, and Spencer cleared their way to the pistols. Spencer was first to the handstand walk but tumbled and had to start over.
Fikowski and Haapalainen found themselves in a race for first in the heat. Haapalainen got across first in 2:06.33 seconds.
Starting heat two, Guilherme Malheiros toppled to the mat twice, sending him toward the back of the pack. He made up for it in the jump rope, all the way into second place by the pistol squats. Malheiros closed the gap for a runner-up finish of 2:07.41 behind Nick Mathew’s 2:04.54.
Heat three saw Dallin Pepper blaze through the pegboard alongside Noah Ohlsen. Upenieks caught up to them, and they hot potato’d the lead. Ohlsen’s gymnastics prowess was unbeatable, as he scored the heat win in a time of 1:59.65.
The final heat was the Jonne Koski show on the pegboard. He and Lazar ?uki? reached the jump ropes quickly, but a slight slip from ?uki? let Koski take a lead that barely held off Gudmundsson. Koski finished a flawless run to finish first in the heat at 2:01.96.
Men’s Semifinal
The 20 men moved on to the Semifinal, which included Ohlsen, Vellner, Malheiros, and Medeiros. Travis Mayer claimed the early lead in the first Semifinal heat, which featured Adler, Moorad, and Khrennikov.
Moorad and Vellner had significant leads entering the pistol squat portion. Vellner advanced to the handstand walk first, cleared the pirouette with ease, and crossed the finish line in a first-place time of 2:09.06. Mayer struggled through the handstand walk and fell to the back of the heat.
Ohlsen fumbled a bit through his first pegboard with peg placement. Garard reached the jump ropes first, but Medeiros tried to take advantage of his rope speed to close the gap. That pattern held through the pistols and handstand walk through to a first-place time of 1:59.97 for Garard. Ohlsen was seen bowing out of the heat after being unable to clear the pegboard.
Men’s Final
The Final of five included Vellner, Malheiros, Medeiros, Mathew, and Garard. Medeiros slipped early on the pegboard, and it cost him a lot of time. Mathew jumped to the early lead, handling the crossovers quite well while the other athletes struggled.
Mathew was the first Individual athlete to make it to the pistol squats. Medeiros leveraged the technique discrepancy on the crossovers to move into second place. Malheiros also figured it out and made it through.
Mathew won the event in a time of 2:14.28. Medeiros struggled on the handstand, while Malheiros had no issue. The Brazilian crossed the finish line in 2:48.93.
On To Event Four
Event Four is the final workout on Day One of the Games. It will likely be a fast event as it is a 21-15-9-9-9 rep scheme of squat cleans and dips. It is scheduled for 7:25 p.m. CDT.
Event Two consists of two Individual workouts, each of which will be worth an entire event’s worth of points. Titled the “Shuttle to Overhead,” it combines running and jerk. It was scheduled for Day One, but weather delays pushed the event to Aug. 4, 2022, which was an initially scheduled rest day.
