110-kilogram powerlifter Jamal Browner saw Samantha Rice, Joe Sullivan, and John Haack claiming all-time world records at the 2022 USPA Raw Pro in North Kansas City, MO, and he decided that he had to join the party. Browner, weighing in at 109.4 kilograms (241.2 pounds), reclaimed the all-time world record total for the 110-kilogram raw class within the first attempt of the deadlift by pulling 420 kilograms (926.1 pounds).
On top of that, Browner became the second male athlete to deadlift at least 1,000 pounds in a full meet by lifting 455 kilograms (1,003 pounds), joining Dan Grigsby, who pulled the feat off earlier in 2022. The clip of Browner’s lift can be seen below, courtesy of his Instagram page:

Browner used his traditional sumo stance with a double overhand hook grip. He was wearing a singlet with his weight belt. He appeared calm and cool when he approached the bar, but after a couple of slight tugs on the Kabuki Strength power bar, he pulled it with great intensity and quickly. Upon the down command, he received three white lights and a lot of congratulations.
His third attempt on the deadlift was 467.5 kilograms (1,030.8 pounds), but he missed it. Nonetheless, he easily secured the record thanks to his eight-for-nine day between all three lifts. The only miss he had was on the final deadlift attempt. The summary of his historic performance is below:
2022 USPA Raw Pro — Jamal Browner | 110KG

Squat — 370 kilograms (815.85 pounds)
Bench Press — 227.5 kilograms (501.6 pounds)
Deadlift — 455 kilograms (1,003 pounds)
Total — 1,052.5 kilograms (2,320.45 pounds)

According to Open Powerlifting, Browner previously held the total record thanks to his performance at the 2021 WRPF Hybrid Showdown 3 meet, but he lost it to Derek Thistlethwaite on July 29, 2022, when Thistlethwaite totaled 1,002 kilograms (2,210 pounds) at the 2022 WRPF American Pro. Browner’s new mark broke the record by 42 kilograms. Thistlethwaite wasn’t in this meet. As of this writing, Browner hasn’t shared when his next meet will be.
