Giants Live has announced that 2023 Britain’s Strongest Man (BSM) competitors, 2020 Europe’s Strongest Man Luke Richardson and 2019 Masters World’s Strongest Man Terry Hollands, have withdrawn from the competition, which is set to take place on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield, England. The announcement was made on the morning of Jan. 19, 2023, through a post on Instagram, which can be seen below:

“It is with huge regret that we have to inform you that both Richardson and Hollands will not compete at Britain’s Strongest Man next week due to injuries. This is a tough sport, both physically and mentally, so be kind and wish them all the best with their recovery!”
Richardson posted a video on Instagram that disclosed he tore his lat during training on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023. Hollands made a post confirming he is out, but no details as to his injury were given. This would’ve been his return to strongman after competing in the 2021 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) contest, where he announced his retirement from that competition.
The same morning that Richardson and Hollands’ withdrawals were announced, Giants Live announced their replacements: Kane Francis and Cilléin Groom. They will both make their BSM debuts.
According to Strongman Archives, Groom competed once in 2022 at the UK’s Strongest Man contest to a fourth-place finish. Francis competed in the Strongman Champions League circuit in 2022, competing in five SCL contests. He never ranked worse than fifth and reached the podium on three occasions: bronze at SCL Romania and SCL World Finals, and silver at SCL Gibraltar.

2023 Britain’s Strongest Man Roster
With these changes being made, the roster for the contest now looks like this.

Regardless of who wins the contest, a new champion will be crowned. 2021 and 2022 BSM champion Tom Stoltman opted not to defend his title in 2023. He is currently training to compete at the 2023 Arnold Strongman Classic.
Bishop is a past champion, having won the BSM contest in 2020. Hicks was the champion before him in 2019. All Giants Live shows serve as qualifiers for the WSM contest. The top three finishers at this show earn qualifications for the 2023 WSM, scheduled for Apr. 18-23, 2023 in Myrtle Beach, SC.
