Kickboxer Bernard “Swiftkick” Robinson Puts WWE Stars Sheamus and Drew McIntyre Through a Full-Body Boxing Workout

In episode 122 of WWE Superstar Sheamus’ YouTube show, “Celtic Warrior Workouts,” the big man from Dublin was joined by his tag team partner, Drew McIntyre, for a training session led by former kickboxer Bernard “Swiftkick” Robinson.
The 56-year-old Robinson put Sheamus and McIntyre through 15 rounds in this workout, each consisting of three minutes of exercise meant to test their strength, endurance, and coordination. Watch the workout below:

Workout Breakdown
Below is a breakdown of the entire workout:
Warm Up
The pair started with a basic warm-up on the heavy bag to get their blood flowing and body temperatures up. This first round was followed by step-ups on two stacked tires at about knee height.
“It’s just quads, hamstrings, calves,” Robinson explains in the video. “This tire is unstable [and strengthens] the ligaments around the knee.”
To opimize time and equipment, Sheamus alternated with McIntyre during cross jab instruction. The Scotsman threw haymakers while Sheamus continued on the tires before swapping. Sheamus, who visited the gym twice per week, came into his own with added combinations.

Breaking a Sweat
The tag team reunited for round four, working on coordination with the tire speed step-ups. McIntyre found that mobility and cardio exercises like this are important for making a return to the ring following injury.

The WWE duo started to fatigue during the speed ring shuffles‚ but pressed on despite the heavy breathing. The boys alternated for rounds six (twisted bag jabs) and seven (high-low rope jabs).
Robinson maintained the wrestlers’ motivation at halfway point, which he believes is “somewhere between pain and pleasure, where giving up is not an option.”
Round 10 took place inside an MMA cage, where Robinson explained that the goal of bouncing a ball off the cage and performing a burpee onto the ball once it comes back. It was a mixture of coordination and conditioning for three grueling minutes.

Stepping Into the Ring
Round 11 — shadowboxing on the tire — was designed to “work calves, hamstrings, glutes, [and] quads,” as an unstable surface required additional balance. Boxing with dumbbells instead levels up the difficulty for more advanced athletes.
Climbing into the boxing ring for rounds 12 and 13, the team exchanged combinations and shuffling around the ring while holding the pads for their partner. Robinson joined the duo in the ring for round 14 and called for hard and heavy combinations from the two WWE work horses.
To finish the workout, Robinson had the wrestlers complete one last heart-pounding round of combination drills, followed by a squat after each exchange of strikes.
