Why American Men Can’t Get It Up
More than one-third of American men have problems getting erections – according to the Global Online Sexuality Survey of more than 22,000 men. Most men bring it on themselves. The leading risk factors for erectile dysfunction (ED) are diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and heart disease – most of which are preventable through healthy lifestyle. Of great concern, the survey found that ED affects nearly 30 percent of men aged 18 to 39. This coincides with a decrease in physical activity and an increase in obesity rates in this age group. ED rates vary considerably throughout the world. Countries such as Brazil, Sweden, France, Spain and Italy had rates below 13 percent, while nearly 50 percent of Middle Eastern men and a whopping 70 percent of Malaysian men suffer from the problem. Erection problems are linked to poor metabolic health. The best way to prevent ED is to exercise regularly, eat healthy foods and seek treatment for diabetes and high blood pressure.
