The 2023 FFForce Championnats de France Juniors de Force Athlétique took place on April 8, 2023, in Nancy, France. In the Junior division, 69-kilogram powerlifter Samantha Eugenie scored two Junior raw national records in the deadlift and total en route to gold.
Eugenie’s deadlift and total are heavier than the IPF Junior world records, however they are not recognized as world records as they were performed in national competition rather than on an international stage. Below are Eugenie’s results:
2023 French Junior Nationals Results — Samantha Eugenie, 90KG | Raw
According to Open Powerlifting, Eugenie went seven for nine in attempts. She missed her third bench press attempt and her second deadlift attempt.

Squat

167.5 kilograms (369.3 pounds
177.5 kilograms (391.3 pounds)
185 kilograms (407.9 pounds)

Bench Press

102.5 kilograms (226 pounds)
110 kilograms (242.5 pounds)
115.5 kilograms (254.6 pounds)

Deadlift

210 kilograms (463 pounds)
219.5 kilograms (483.9 pounds)
220.5 kilograms (496.1 pounds) — New French Junior National Record

Total — 515.5 kilograms (1,136.5 pounds) — New French Junior National Record

Eugenie officially weighed in at 67.8 kilograms (149.5 pounds).

Eugenie’s mixed grip raw sumo deadlift of 220.5 kilograms (496.1 pounds) surpassed Clara Peyraud’s current IPF Junior raw world record by 2.5 kilograms. Since Peyraud is also French, it means that Eugenie’s new Junior raw deadlift national record is more than Peyraud’s IPF Junior raw deadlift world record.
Eugenie’s Junior raw total national record was matched by fellow French powerlifter Andorina Bouchoux. They both scored 515.5-kilogram (1,136.5-pound) totals. The new Junior raw total record is five kilograms more than Peyraud’s IPF Junior raw world record scored in November 2022.

However, since Eugenie weighed in at just over one kilogram fewer than Bouchoux, Eugenie is credited with the Junior raw national record. Bouchoux didn’t leave Nancy empty-handed, though — she set a Junior raw squat national record of 193 kilograms, just two kilograms under the IPF Junior raw squat world record held by Ramune Vainauskyte of Lithuania.

There is still several months until the 2023 IPF World Classic Junior Championships take place in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. If Eugenie steps on the lifting platform there and pulls the same weight she did in Nancy, she could officially rewrite the IPF world record books and further France’s recent dominance in the sport.
