Soda pop, is the correct entire name. I don't know where the "pop" got in. In the old days (let me adjust my flame suit a little... there) people would go to a restaurant or drug store with a lunch counter and have the soda jerk(no shit that's what they were called) make them a soda drink. Mostly cola or some other flavor. He would add syrup to a glass of ice and then soda water. There weren't the bar guns that dispensed drinks with a push of a button. When I was a kid there were still a few places like that around. Some people shortened it to soda, some to pop. I don't know where the "pop" thing got started.
Oh, and I also remember beer comming in steel cans with no pop top. Then the cans went to a pop tpo, and the pull tab came off and you would drop it back into the beer (or soda). Now when you open one, the tab stays on and doesn't litter up the place. Only trouble is that you can't decorate your apartment with long chains made from bending tabs together.
And cars didn't have seat belts either, your girl would sit in the middle and be all over you as you drove around. You could tell who was having a fight when you saw the girl sitting all the way over by the passenger door.
And the mail used to be delivered two times a day.
And the NFL champs would play an exebition game against the best of the rookies in the All Star game. Those upstarts in the AFL didn't even exist.
Oh God, I am so old! :crap:
