Stretching for Splits

I have been stretching every nite with spanishfly, it feels so damn good to realy stretch the muscles out, we mostly stretch our legs. This leads me to my question. What is the best way to limber up enough to do a split, meaning are there any good old secrets to stretching other then what any one could come up with on their own?

My goal is to be able to drop down into a split during my routine at my next show in October. I have a good routine in mind and I think if my big ass drops into a split on stage the place will erupt.

So im eager to hear any ideas on how to learn how to do a split?

something about a male bouncing his sack on the ground gives me that lump in my throught and the funny stomach pain LOL. I actually wish I was that flexiable this is one of my weak areas.

Ok this is coming from a gymnast (yes I am gymnast also) just continue doing what you are doing presser have her push you down a lil farther every night or every other night. After a while you will become limber enough to do them....but when you try the do them correct which means you hips should be pointing fwd.

There is a part in the movie "Blood Sport" which looks like it might help you do the splits....might hurt though. lol

Put some socks on and put one foot on the carpet and the other on the kitchen lineoleum.

OK.. now that everyone has given you crap about this, let me tell you something that actually works.

Any muscle you stretch, will become very easily, and very quickly more flexible by "negative stretching". You need a partner tod o this, but it sounds like SpanishFly has you taken care of.

I assume that you want do side splits? In which case you need to stretch the adductors on the inside of your thighs.

Sit on the ground with your back to the wall, slight arch in your lower back w/good posture. Heep your heels on the ground and toes pointing up. Hopefully you are in a room with lots of space for your legs. Put your legs out in front of you - open - maybe at 45 degrees to start - wider as you get more flexible.

Your partner needs to brace herself against something, or this won't work.

Your goal is to squeeze your legs together as hard as you can. Fly's goal is to not let you. Do this for about 1 minute.

Then open your legs as wide as you can, and have your partner help by pushing them back. Go 30 seconds on this.

Again do the negative stretch, where you are trying to sqeeze your legs together, then repeat the normal stretch.

If you want to test the efficacy of this - before you do any of the negative stretches - try to see how far you can spread your legs on your own... do 1 negative stretch, then try to spread them again - I guarantee if you did it right that you will notice a VERY big difference.

Do this 3-4 times a week for 4-6 weeks, and you'll be down in the splits. Works for every muscle group.

Enjoy - let me know if you have any questions.

presser, i have done what japan said on other types of stretches and it works very well. at least an inch or more after each negative.

have to go with jap on this one as that is how I stretch my hipflexors to get ready for games and it works very well. But you have to have a partner for this!

I gonna try that for my lower back. Just think of all the fun I can have with myself when the old lady is away.

Armageddon: absolutely no offense taken, bro. Hence the "i find it funny" and the chuckle. *smile*

Presser: let me know how this works for you.
