The BCAA's are more than just a part of the amino acid profile. They are the aminos the body runs out of during an intense workout, and will cannibalize lean tissue to obtain. I use Beverly's MUSCLE MASS BCAA's, and they are expensive. I take about 4 before a workout, and 4 tabs every 10 minutes during my workout for a total of 28-32. This halts catabolism enough that I notice a marked decrease in soreness the day following a hard workout. This is the only time BCAA's are necessary. Used before and during a workout, they will provide increased muscluar gains.
