ok here goes im going into the strongman comp. in like 1month 15 days. my bf isnt that high so. anyways heres the main question i know fat is stored energy but y are all these big powerlifters so ummmm..hmmm..for lack of a better word large(fat)? doesnt it make more sense to be leaner? which doesnt neccessarily mean that u are in better shape, but for the fact that u have less weight to carry.im curious about this.thanx not sure if im in the righ tplace to post this type of question. sorry if in wrong place.

This is a great question for Mule, whose not here now. I know that I'm much stronger at 270 than at 225.

saw it

yeah i caought it last week 2. was pretty good until the end the beginning and middle were most interresting 2 me.but they really seemed to go on the girl who was pound for pound stronger than the bigger guy. but thanx.. :)

naw

naw its cool thanx for the effort seriously..man i love this forum, the fast responses are awesome.much better than alot of othe forums im apart of. :)

I asked that question about a month ago and the bro's wrote in that they were not concerned with their diet as bodybuilders are. Could it be that these guys eat, sleep, breath one drug-testosterone and lots of it? I know that I was never as strong as when I take loads of suspension. Anyone else on this topic?

I'm stronger the more I weigh basically... as i diet down, unfortunately I lose muscle too... when I bulk up, unfortunately I gain fat too... I try to minimize the unwanted with diet but reality is that it still happens.

I saw that show Sak's was pretty good. I caught it at like 3 am and was dozing in and out thru half of it but definately want to catch it in whole.

Choke, I caught it about 1/2 way through after work one night. I would also like to see it in it's entirety

Now, I'm certainly not judging anyone, but wouldn't it make sense to be a bit more "rotund" if you will, to make the distance shorter for your bench press....AND if you had more of a belly, it could help to push you back up from a squat position, moreso than if you were at 5%.........I'm probably totally off base, but I thought I'd throw it out there

Not really. Because fat is a noncontractile tissue, it doesn't really contribute to your strength. However, the retained water helps tremendously - you're like a hydraulic press. Strongman athletes aren't judged on their appearance, so who cares? Also, there aren't any formulas to attempt to negate differences in bodyweight between competitors and the weight/reps lifted. So you want to show up as big and full as possible.

I'm not sure who the reigning WSM is, but I do know Svend Karlsen and Magnus Samuelsson have been trading the title for the past 2-3 years with Jouko Ahola winning in '97 & '99.

Of those three, Ahola always looked harder, but certainly not dialed for a show @ 5%. It always comes down to who has trained the hardest for the specific events and one's build. Ed Coan is the greatest powerlifter ever, but I just don't see him (@ 5'4") carrying those stones and throwing them up on the platforms. I doubt he could even reach the tallest one. Karlsen and Samuelsson are both 6'4"-6'5". That's a big advantage in a lot of those events.

clicking on the first link should work, if not then copy and paste the enitre above link into your address bar and that should work..

muscle lifts weights and fat does nothing but make you slow. you need a great grip and a strong low back. my training partner is a pro strongman. so i have a little insight into the strongman world.
