anyone here ever tore a pec muscle?

I did a couple years ago, and still strugle with my bench press, my strength is just not equal to everything else. How did you build strength back up?

I haven't. Three weeks ago I nearly did. I did a massive chest workout one day and the very next day I was doing a sitting row. My last set I got lazy and tried to pull the weight in with my chest just to get started. Big mistake!

I got the weight half-way to me and I felt a sharp pain in my right pec. I dropped the weight and I had severe pain for two days.

I just took it easy on my upper body for about a week to play it safe. I did not want a torn pec.

Sorry this is no help.

I did a micro tear almost 2 years ago. Had to take a month off from chest to let it heal. Since then I use dumbells 90% of the time. I feel the bar was too restrictive and thats what caused it. You can build good strength with dumbell work then carefully switch back to barbell. It may take a couple workouts to readjust but then the strength should increase quickly.

How did you tear you pec HB?

During a football game actually, making a block, hard to descibe with out showing, but I put a block on a 300 pounder with my hard in a bench press position, I was off center of the guy his full force hit my left hand bent it back and tore the muscle.

My strength has never been the same in my chest.

I probably really need to switch to dumbbells again. It's just taking so long to go back to normal.

u have never seen someone tear a pec until u see someone completely tear it, like this dudes pec curled up close to his shoulder and he was bleeding severely though his skin

I was a complete tear, it looked like somebody took a fillet knife to the muscle, and it just curled over. It was just one of those freak accidents.

I'm just getting pissey because I'm just stuck on my bench training, it just won't get in line with the rest of my strength. IE I can millitary press more than I can bench.

I honesty think I may have 3 days ago. I really want to talk to someone ASAP. Catch me on AIM if you can, Surferboy1706

Thanks!

you probably need to get to a doc. unless it was a very minor tear, you would know it immediately. it looked like somebody took a fillet knife to my muscle and it just curled up.

Yeah...well I was working out in my baseball class. We were doing 4 sets of 5. I had increased weight from the previous lift. I finished all my sets and reps almost failing on my the last rep of the last set, so I was set. Had a successful bench that day I had thought. Well as I got up I felt a sharp pain in my right chest., like right where the muscle begins. It didn't feel like my muscle was sore or cramped, just a sharp pain. Well the next two days I came in and did my bench, but the sharp pain came back as I was doing my lifts. All of a sudden I just snapped and failed completely on my 2nd set. But like the pain wasn't any worse, it was the same constant sharp pain. It doesn't feel like in my muscle, feels like under it. Anyways...I benched today..and I could barely lift my normal weight. I had to take 40 pounds off, and I still struggled with that. My chest doesn't look any different. So..I honestly don't know whats up but I'll see a doctor ASAP. Thanks.

HB,

tore my pec almost 4 yrs ago, chest has never been the same since. it was by far the worst pain i have ever felt. my entire right arm all the way through my right pec was purple from the blood vessels that burst. it took me close to 7 months before i could do anything in the gym at all. it is still deformed to this day.

stay safe
peace
big bow

Had my pec repaired on 7/1/03. I used to work up to 5 plates per side or the incline hammer. As of yesterday I can only comfortably handle 2. I dont know if my strength will ever be the same, but I really dont care. I now do TNE and winstrol or Fina in my pecs and they are responding nicely. I basically do one big superset for about 30 min. When I am closer to my regular strength I will do IGF and PGF in them. I dont think you need really heavy weight to grow

Tore my right pec in 97'. I was on winny/primo and i went to the gym to do chest. I was on the flat bench and was bringing the bar just below my neck to fill out my upper pecs. I didnt warm up properly, and went to 405 on the 3rd set (i know, it was stupid). The first 2 went up perfect, then the 3rd rep came down, and my right arm collapsed and the 4 plates on the right side spilled onto the floor. Luckily my training partner was their or it could have been worse. 30 seconds after it happened, i took off my sweatshirt and i had this dark black-and-blue mark running from my right pec to the middle of my right bicep. I never got it fixed, i just laid off chest for about 3 months, and now i just stick to Hammer Strength machines and dips for chest.

Yes

Major tear of left pec in 1994 doing flat barbell benches (4 plates). Tore on the 4th rep.

Had it surgically repaired but strength never the same. I avoid free weight benches these days unless 2nd or 3rd exercise and then use less weight.

Can still bench 3 plates for sets of 10-12 on a flat bench in the smith machine but stick to mainly dumbells these days.

Take care with barbell benches and dont let your ego call the shots.

Pec tear

I've torn a pec a few weeks ago. I am a powerlifter rather than bodybuilder, therefore I have only been working with the barbel. One day went on to the dumbbels and on the 6th rep of the 3rd set torn the left pec (still don't know if it was minor or major). I benched 160kg b4 the injury no problem and the weight that tore the muscle was only 50kg (dumbbel) - it's just such a different tecnique! I normally recover very well, but this one through me out completely - now it's a month later and I can't do dumbbel press even with 5kg! Any suggestions 4 recovery?
