I Dropped that 10 pounds in just over a week, I get up have some egg whites (light protein) and battle traffic to work, then work with no breaks and a short lunch till 6pm, battle traffic home exhausted, by then its around 7 or 8 pm and I've got to get to bed so I can be sharp as a tack in the morning. I'm going to try to work it out so that my weekends are mostly gym time.
So you want to be a dental assistant?
here's what you do, go find a Monarch dental practice (if they have those there) and tell them you want to be a dental assistant.
If they like you they will say come in at 7-8 am wearing scrubs and be ready to work.
the first day you'll just autoclave instruments, and clean rooms to OSHA standards.
don't expect anyone to tell you how to do anything ask some other Pa's (working interview they call it), just stick to the easy routine stuff for the first couple of days. by day 2 you will be watching procedures and possibly providing suction, and you will be filling out allot of charts on new patents during their initial examination, The doctors all have their own way of saying things so you'll just have to get used to what they want you to put on the chart, some will refuse to take time to tell you, oh and everyone gets x-rays their first visit 4 bite wings and a panoramic (you do that to as well as develop them) find someone who has been their a while (not a Dr.) and ask them the questions on how they want everything done.
Its tuff getting the routine down the first two days then from then on its all learning new stuff, They have me hand crafting temp, and permanent crowns I just show a Doc the x-ray of the permanent so they can see if it sits correctly if the Dr, says it looks good, It goes in permanent should last 25-45 years with no problems.
The First couple of days are basically getting used to the different way Doctors like to do things and getting to know where everything is and where to put who, ect. after that its just a nice constant learning experience, crash course dentistry!
next week they have you learning the procedures so that you can do them and the Dr.can stop by and make sure you did it correctly. But by week 2 the stress level goes way down and your just deciding on what you want to learn to do next.
We are short 6 assistants and the one with 2 and 1/2 years experience is going on vacation, so next week its all me and I've only been their m-f of last week and a Thursday and Friday of the week before. .......oh and no degree required you just have to be able to learn by doing it real fast.
