Ive heard that if you take your shake with water it will be absorbed faster. So after i lift i use water instead of the milk like i do the rest of the day. Is there any truth behind this. I would love to use milk because i need all the xtra cals i can get

Different protein's absorb at different rates.

For all practicle purposes- In a Whey/Milk combo, the whey will absorb at the same rate as Whey in water. The milk proteins, will absorb at a different rate (milk is just not one kind of protein).

Whey is the fastest absorbing. Whey plus simple carbs is what you are looking to get post-workout. A short time later, eat another higher carb meal with some "real" (God, I hate that phrase) food. Chicken or steak as a protein source for instance.

got me, but there is a world of difference between shakes with water and shakes with milk

Good info...I stopped taking it with milk cuz I didnt think it made that much of a diff. and it goes down easier with water....

But I might just try and take it with milk for the extra calories too...
