Bodybuilders of the 70's

Who thinks that bodybuilders of the 70's didn't use very low dosages like many people say?

Look at Lou Ferigno(sp) in Pumping Iron. He wanted to beat Arnold so bad....his father pushed him so hard as well. Don't you think he would be using more and more gear for that reason only?

I'm thinking guys probably took anywhere from 600-1000mg of test per week. There is no way in hell that some of those guys did such low levels and when they stopped competing shrank severely in size. If you were on such low levels that would not happen as much.

Anyone see Arnold when he took off for a summer. Looked like he dropped about 30+ lbs. Look at Flex Wheeler his reduction in size is a lot more severe than arnold's, but I'm sure there's a direct correlation with how much gear each one used.

Hmmm, good points. I think most people lie anyway about doseages. I wouldn't be surprised if they took more than a gram. Why would people all of a sudden decede more is better? I'm sure that always been the mentality.

I disagree-Todays pros use massive dosages-Take one look at their pysiques compared to Lou, Arnold, Zane, Columbo etc...More massive, more ripped, more vascular...

I am not saying BBs from the 70s did not use big dosages however not like today

PS Its not like the dumbells and barbells are better today then 30 years ago....

I do not think that they took super big doses like todays super freaks do but I am sure they took big doses for the day !

I met Frank Zane last week at the Olympia - Hes thin and looks like any other old guy. Nice man - I signed up for his news letter - may have some good tips.

I tried his Thigh - Blaster thingie - cool piece of equipment but not for 500.00

Frank Zane is old? Oh, oh- better go check the mirror!

I'm not saying they used massive doses by any means (by today's standards) but I call BS when different people or magazines claim that a 70's Pro only used 400mg of Primo or 200-400mg of Test Cyp or 10-20mg of D-bol.

I was just thinking about this, because I read some average dosages for a 70's ifbb pro bb on another board. Someone else also agreed that these doses sounded right. I don't believe it.

I thought Steve Michalik ended up going nuts and admitted taking up to 14injections a day on some A&E program? I could be wrong. Supposedly this guy was on track to be Mr. O in very late 70's but got into some kind of accident?

Lou's old man was just show. He never was involved like the film showed. They just wanted a spin to make him look more interesting.

Sounds about right to me. Took more than the`re tellin'. Maybe not by todays standard but 20mg D-bol? BS.
Also GH and slin makes a BIG differance in todays BB ers. MHO anyway

There are more effective types of gear available now, more education now with regards to training, more education now with regards to gear intake, more supplements available now, etc.

Speaking of Arnold, I've read that he was being given shots of Primobolin at the age of 13, along with eating handfuls of d-bol.

Also, those guys in the seventies were doing 15 sets per body part, three times a week. Would they have grown better with less workouts? Who knows? But it sure makes me question the concept of "overtraining."

Arnold definately overtrained and thats were the high doses of dbol came in and explain why chest and arms were his strenghs. They respond better to more volume than back or legs. Of course once a week would be better still. Imagine if he trained once a week and allowed his back and quads to catch up!

I think the reason the pro are so much bigger today is GH, slin, and I-gf1.
I agree with 2 out of 3. I think most pros are still haven't discovered Long R yet!
