Some facts on Saizen brand Somatropin Growth Hormone
theres a couple facts that were intersting to me....
Saizen® is a human growth hormone produced using recombinant DNA technology. In recombinant DNA technology, researchers combine DNA (genetic information) from two sources. One source contains the genetic information needed for the medicine and the other, larger, source helps to deliver it to the body.
Like the growth hormone the human body produces on its own, Saizen® travels through the bloodstream to the tissues. Tissues react by making a substance called insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). IGF-1 stimulates cells to divide, which causes growth.
Saizen® stimulates growth of bones, cells, and organs. Clinical studies have shown that it causes a decrease in body fat and an increase in bone growth and muscle mass.
The bacteriostatic water that comes with Saizen® contains the preservative benzyl alcohol, which should not be used in newborns or patients with a known sensitivity to benzyl alcohol. For these patients, Saizen® may be reconstituted with Sterile Water for Injection, USP. When it is reconstituted in this manner, it must be used immediately and any unused portion must be discarded.
Excessive thirst, increased urination, or dizziness. These could be symptoms of overdose or glucose intolerance.
Leukemia has been reported in a small number of patients. It is not clear whether this is the result of the growth hormone deficiency itself, growth hormone therapy, or other associated treatments such as radiation therapy for brain tumors. So far, data has failed to confirm a relationship between growth hormone therapy and leukemia.
Before you mix them, vials of Saizen® powder should be stored at room temperature between 59° and 86° F (15°-30° C).
Saizen® that has been mixed with the sterile diluent (Bacteriostatic Water for Injection, USP) must be refrigerated (36°-46° F/2°-8° C) and can be used for 14 days. Avoid freezing.
Saizen® cannot be given by mouth since stomach acids would destroy the hormone before it could be absorbed into the body. Saizen® is usually given daily at bedtime
