I know what ALA is but what does ALC stand for? I've read some stuff on it but don't know the full name. Thanks

I found out some of the info, thanks for the effort....

Acetyl-L-Carnitine - Acetyl-L-Carnitine and carnitine play several important roles in the human body. These nutrients shuttle acetyl groups and fatty acids into mitochondria for energy production. Without carnitine, fatty acids cannot easily enter into mitochondria. The acetyl group of acetyl-l-carnitine is used to form Acetyl-CoA, the most important intermediary in the generation of energy from amino acids, fats, and carbohydrates. Therefore, Acetyl-L-Carnitine serves as an energy reservoir of acetyl groups and both Acetyl-L-Carnitine and carnitine help improve energy production. Those who take carnitine pills notice an increase in energy levels. The acetyl group of acetylcarnitine is also used to make the important brain chemical acetylcholine. Some studies suggest that perhaps acetyl-l-carnitine can even act as a neurotransmitter itself.

Shrinks fat cells
Aids fat metabolism
Reversal of age-related nerve and brain deterioration
Memory and learning improvement, works well for any age
Age spot (liver spot) reduction
Combats depression and stress
Improves hormone balance
Improves energy, helps chronic fatigue
Reverses age associated decline in the heart's energy capacity
Improves nerve transmission to muscles, helps many neuro-muscular tissue

OK, So lets see the studies on this. Add an acetyl group to L-Carnitine and I'm not impressed. Acetyl-CoA is nothing more than a 2 carbon molecule produced by normal energy metabolism constantly - supplementing to get it would be like supplementing with saturated fats. Silly.

L-Carnitine is part of L-Carnitine Acyl Transferase, a molecule that is required to bring fatty acids into the mitochondria for oxidation. The lit. I've read on carnitine is not impressive (except in horses).

MacG, can ya give the URL for the above?...

Nothing irks me more than presenting something as if there is scientific data to support your (not meaning you at all MacG) contentions without providing the scientific proof. This is how supplelment manufacturers hock their shit all the time...

I feel better now. LOL
