how much do we really need?

I have been talking with skip about how much protien we really need in a day. seems most pros are lowering there intake now because of all the kidney problems poping up as of late. I talked to Tom prince over the weekend and he told me he only takes in 250g per day now and he is still looking big as hell.

Do we really need more than 1g per LB or is it just that pros are were they need to be in terms of growth and that all you need to hold on to what you have. I mean most pros are not trying to get any bigger just look there best on stage.

skip had a very good point that back in the day you didnt here about any kidney problems just how back AAS usage was for you but back then they were not taking in 2 or 3g per LB like we do now.

I would like to hear what you guys think about this? can we grow and stay more healthy on 1g per pound of body weight?

I get good gains off of 1-1.5g of protein per lb. I think going between 2-3g per lb is just putting much unneeded stress on your kidneys without greater benifits. You're body can only process so much protein.

I shoot for 1-1.5 per lbs.
I try and keep my Carbs moderate to low so I need to get the calories from something. I don't want too much fat in my diet -so I make it up with the protein.

Ive never used more than 300g of protien usuallymore like 250g. I have problems eating that much. I always said that some of the biggest MFers around are in prison..they aint eating 250g of protien in there! So.... I can believe we dont need as much as all the magazines have told us (aka catalogs for sports nutrition). I once read an interview with Flex Wheeler where he said he ate 600g of vegtable protien/day...guess who he was sponsered by? Who knows, next year they may be selling Colestrum again.

I'm with everyone else here, I shoot for 1.25-1.50g per lb of body weight. Any more than that and I'm going to the bathroom every 30 minutes.

I will say that when I bumped my protein up to very high levels about 3 years ago, I have grown better than I have in the past 15 years or so. However, I can't say that dropping them back would make the gains stop, either. I am the type of person that doesn't fix something that ain't broke so I have just kept it at the same level.

I will be experimenting after this next show in June, though. I am just too concerned about the negative ramifications on the kidneys (and my grocery bill hehe) and want to see if I can still make good gains on less protein intake. I figure, if Cutler, Prince and guys like this can do it, I don't know why you or I can't, either. Plus, it will take one more "worry iron" out of the fire and I am all for that.

i tried the 300g per day routine and I was miserable, so now I keep around 200g-250g range. I am making pretty gains with that dose.
