Using SLIN (Hum-R) to hasten KETOSIS

Ok......

I'm currently using the "BodyOpus" diet by Dan Duchaine to drop the last few pounds of stubborn bodyfat enroute to my upcoming show April 3rd. A few questions arise in the area of hastening ketosis. First, on Sunday carbs are stopped approximately 12pm-1pm. Now, using Humulin-R, should i IMMEDIATELY start using MCT oil, or wait till the evening? Reason for this is: Wouldnt taking MCT's and Slin be a bad idea, since the Slin would "shuttle" the MCT's into adipose (fat) tissue? Or should i take Slin at small amounts for the rest of the day with NO carbs and THEN add MCT's towards the evening because most of the glucose would be disposed of by using slin? This is interesting......just wondering with carbs still in your system, adding MCT along with slin would make me believe that it would shuttle the MCT's into fat tissue.....Any opinions/advice/experiences??? Thanks!

This is a tricky question. How much slin are you using? Have you done this before? To tell you the truth it sounds a little risky to me. I have never used slin but I go low carb and eat some ALA and I go hypo. So for me slin would be a no no.

Using 3-5 iu's every 3 hours or so on Sundays along with MCT oil and very little protein to hasten Ketosis. Works well, i get into ketosis within 10 hours or so (not deep ketosis, but the next level after "trace" ketones on the Ketostix, kinda like a darker "pink") By Tuesday i'm usually in a "maroon-red" or "burgundy" color on the Ketostix. I was just wondering if the combination of MCT's and Slin on Sunday would shuttle the MCT's into fat cells. Hmmmmm......anybody else?

IMO it doesn't work. Slin will lower your blood sugar levels, yes, but it doesn' get rid of the carbs that are still left in your body. Only when all carbs are burnt you will enter ketosis.

So IMO it is without effect and also quite dangerous.

It WILL get you into ketosis more quickly, as you have seen Titan. Ketosis is a matter of hormones affecting the liver's production of ketone bodies.

However, Duchaine overemphasizes the role of ketosis in fat loss. It is not a magical state of super-accelerated fat loss, although is is (IMHO) a great place to be in terms of appetite suppression.

If you want to get into ketosis earlier, adjust your carb-up so that you have no carbs on Sunday. Do Sunday AM and PM cardio, eat mainly protein Sunday, do Monday AM Cardio and you'll be ketotic for sure by Mon afternoon, and more likely beforehand.

Remember, too - the Stix only show ketonuria, not ketonemia. Ketosis is a genertic term for being in a state of ketone production. You could be producing ketones which are circulating in your blood (ketonemia) but being oxidized as fuel and not lost in the urine.
