Knee Extensions - Do ya do 'em and how?...

Wondering who does knee extensions?

Who has had to shy away from them b/c they cause you knee pain (that you've noted)?

If you do do them, do you rotate the leg (meaning the toes move too), to target the medialis (toes out), lateralis (toes in), both, or not at all?...

I finish up with them. I have some knee problems but just kind of deal with it. I do them to burn out after squats and presses. I used to change the way I point my toes but have just been doing them with my toes strait.

Funny how many continue to do them despite the pain. Can't say that I'm not guilty of that to a certain degree...

i do them because i get such a good concentrated pump when i do them. just feels good like they are makin my legs grow, you know what i mean?

I still do them quite a bit. As a former cyclist my legs and knees are very strong. Never had knee problems..yet!

I don't rotate. That is pretty scary. I do one leg at a time.

I do them almost every leg workout, I love the pumps I get. For the most part I keep my toes pointed straight up. I noticed that when I'm getting the last couple of reps my toes start to point it.

what do u think gets your legs bigger--extensions or squats

Well, put it this way - I don't know too many guys with good wheels that only do extensions.

On the other hand, there are guys with good wheels who don't squat, but do exercises that are closer to a squat than are knee extensions (e.g., leg press).

I'd take squats over extensions any day. Muscle activity in the quads (overall, with the exception of the rectus femoris) is less during knee extensions vs. squat, when the relative load is the same. Squats just get the job done better. Plus, squats activate the hamstrings moreso than extensions (or leg presss) - better for overall thigh development.

My sentiments exactly. I do rotate my toes doing extentions to hit differnt muscles. I rhink they are great for developing the "reardrop". But squats are the big daddy of thigh development-I get a good hamstring pump from squats also and are sore as hell the next day.

no extensions , knee pain for me as well ... and i use various foot positions in my leg press and squats normally to target vastus medialis specifically etc ... and one other thing i do once in a while is lunges .
