Hypothermia

Okay, here is a question I have been thinking of asking for a little while.
A decade ago (or longer) I read about a study in which subjects were imersed in cold water (can't remember the temp-55F maybe?) several times a week for roughly 30 minutes each time.
This of course would stimulate the thyroid to increase production for thermogenesis which would in turn convert bodyfat into energy.
I am wondering what some of our knowledgeable mods and members think about this as an easy way to reduce bodyfat??

I think its far from an easy way to reduce bodyfat! It sounds very painful. Ive lived in the pacific north west and the ocean is 55f there. You cant stay in it for more than a couples minutes, and it actually hurts to wade in it! BUT if you have a tub that you can fill up with ice, you will at least benifit from the anti-inflamatory benifits from ice. Pro football player regularly take Ice whirlpools after games to reduce swelling and pain. BUT DAMN ! Id rather do some cardio....just my opinion...BRRRRRRRRRRRR

Oh yeah, cold water would not be too pleasant...tough on the unit too. But this would be a way to put the thyroid in high gear-not sure for how long thyroid levels would be elevated.
I am a little familiar with manipulating body temp-mostly with hyperthermia where body temp is raised with warm water for 30-45 min sessions....elevated body temp kills viruses as they are more heat sensitive than normal cells.....and hyperthermia also produces a delayed beneficial effect of stimulating production of white cells.
