I'm currently in my 3rd week of cutting, man dieting sucks! I'd like to know if whey protein is a good protein choice for dieting? It's a staple in my diet right now, I ask because i remeber reading somewhere that Whey protein isn't good when dieting, except for post-workout of course.

Yeah IMHO, I would dump the powders and replace them with solid food. For me , it causes too much bloat especially during the last 4 weeks of my diet.

Well I think it can be done - whey does offer a complete spectrum of amino acids for the body to use- The only question is how many protein shakes are you planning on drinking per day???!!

You will have to consider that you will probably end up some annoying stooling problems - make sure you eat plenty of fibre and greens!

Ideally its good to get your protein from a variety of sources - I tend to do so but when contest dieting I will eliminate all dairy sources, and all sources that contain more than normal amounts of salt.

right on.....I get a lot of my protein intake from whey protein powders and it does the trick. lot of aminos in whey and its the way to go IMO

lean beef, chicken, turkey etc. are going to satisfy you alot better then a shake. lean beef is where i get the majority of my protein from when dieting. a shake does nothing for my appetite.

I think you can retain muscle and loose lots of fat when dieting with whey as your major, but not only source of protein.

i agree with Cordoba. i eat only one solid meal a day while dieting, the rest is whey powder. with my job, it so much easier to slam shakes.

you have to remember as well, protein and water seperate in your stomach and protein becomes a solid before digested.

you have to have a junk day once a week this way as well....which is something to ALWAYS look forward to at the end of each week:)

i have junk days right up to the week before a show:)

When bulking I allways like to have a good meat product or chicken to go with my shakes. I tried a shake only method when dieting before but the hunger was so often that I couldnt stand it. Plus stool problems were also an issue. If you eat small (carb smart meals) you shouldnt have a thing to worry about when dieting. Just dont cheat.

I personally use a mixture of protein sources, it's just what works for me. I consume about 20 egg whites ed, 10am and 10pm.
Chicken, steak, fish and protein shakes all about 2 serving per day of each. Then add in all the greens and complex carbs. I also supplement with Amino and BCAA if the meal I am eating does not provide me with a balance. An amino\BCAA imbalance can screw things up. If I cut down on the steak and chicken and increase the fish, I lean up really well without losing muscle mass. Whole food instead of the shakes helps me feel full longer to keep me from cheating. Just my .02

I dont know about contest prep dieting but if it weren't for ion-exhange whey, I'd never anywhere close to my daily protein goal.

Whey6 for pre and post workout, egg, casein, and whole food proteins for all other times. And if you like brain shrinkage and thyroid shutdown after 3 months of use, soy.
